Replica Model of a noteworthy "Pratt" through truss bridge. The original Ohio Connecting Bridge was built in 1890 by the OhioConnecting Railway. The 1890 design was a single-track bridge. During the mid 1800's Pittsburgh and the Keystone states economy grew at a staggering rate. The original OCB bridge resolved a major bottleneck in Pittsburgh. Once completed, Traffic could move in either direction between the PennsylvaniaRailroad main line in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania (part of the Pittsburgh Division atthat location) and the Fort Wayne Line atthe north end of the Ohio Connecting Bridge. Trains would traverse the Port PerryBranch, Monongahela Division, and Panhandle Division inorder to reach the Pittsburgh Division or the Fort Wayne Line. Replica model is close, but, not exact to the prototype as selective compression has been used to reduce a 508 foot long prototype into a 48 span. A good level of cosmetic detail is provided leaving room for model to add additional detail if they prefer. I strive to maintain a realistic appearance that will do the beautiful & massive prototype justice! I will assemble this one for sales and marketing photos. Please contact me regarding assembly and decoration. I can decorate as new, lightly weather, heavily weathered or a RUSTY MESS! The Pratt design has been used throughout North America by many railroads. There are several variations and versions of the original design, reflecting load ratings and requirements, common to bridges found throughout North America and the world for that matter. · History: he bridge issignificant for its complexity, carrying rail traffic in four directions acrossthe Ohio River on a system of high viaduct spans and through trusses. Innovative methods were used to erect the main channel span in 1890, and toreplace it in 1915 accommodating a wider two (2) track span. When completed, this Parker through truss bridge was the world'slongest riveted simple truss span. Prototype is a variant of the Pratt through truss with polygonal top chords and panels that are additionally subdivided by ties and struts. The sloping of the top chords saves materials and best places the depths of the truss at the center of the span, while the subdivided panels distribute the loads uniformly and handle secondary stresses well.

The Pratt truss was well-suited to long spans and remained popular through the early decades of the 20th century. In the future I hope to maintain KITS in stock.
